At Elite Blinds we take child safety very seriously.
To this end we fully endorse the British Blind and Shutter Association’s (BBSA) ‘Make it Safe Campaign’.
Window blind cords and chains can pose a risk to children who could injure or even strangle themselves on the hanging looped cords. There are many different types of child safe blinds and safety devices to make blind cords safer, but we feel that it is vital to also increase people’s awareness of the potential dangers. There are some simple steps that can be taken to significantly reduce the risks:
- Secure cords out of the reach of children
- Do not place cots, beds, playpens or highchairs near to a window blind
- Do not put sofas, chairs, shelves or bookcases near to window blinds as children like to climb
When buying new blinds, choose ones that do not require hanging looped cords such as motorised blinds, wand operated blinds, gear operated blinds, sprung roller blinds and systems where the cords are held under tension and operated with a handle not a cord.
We can retro-fit safety devices (cleats, cord breakers, cord/chain tidies) to existing blinds and have done so in many schools and nurseries where the blinds had looped cords. Or we are happy to supply the devices to be fitted by the customer.
Please tell your friends and families to check their blinds and make sure every blind is a safe blind. Even if you have no children in your house, they may visit.
